What research says

The Sony MDR-V700DJ are still an industry standard for DJing and have been for years. These headphones are also find favor with producers, remixers and engineers. The first noticeable difference between the AKG K 240 and these headphones are the swiveling and folding design. This allows a more flexible usage especially for A/B monitor situations where you need to hear the sound inside and outside and listen to the differences often. The MDR-V700dj set is designed to be comfortably worn for long periods of time as are the AKGs. The Sony headphone will also stand up to more abuse and have a very solid construction as compared to the AKG K 240s. This may become a problem of weight, as the AKG K 240 is a lightweight set. Another huge benefit of the Sony set is the power-handling which is a powerful 3000 mW as opposed to AKGs 200mW, which allow louder volumes and higher dB levels without distortion.

The AKG set has long time been the choice of recording artists and audiophile listeners. The 50mm neodymium drivers in the Sony set is tuned for thick low end, whereas the AKG set has a colorless sound which is great for hearing the pure sound of whats at the source. The self-adjusting headband and semi-open earcup design allow for hours of comfort.

Both units have gold-plated screw on 1/4-inch adapters and come standard with a 1/8-inch cable connector. Considerations are simply what your usage will be. For critical listening and enjoyment the AKG are great reference-quality headphone, do be mindful of taking them on the road because the construction of the AKG K 240s will not tolerate much abuse. If you plan to be more active, and are working in loud environments the Sony MDR-V700dj are almost a necessity.

I owned a pair of Sony MDRs and they were the best DJ headphones I've ever worn. The Sonys were comfortable, loud, clear, and lasted for-freakin-ever!

IMHO the Stanton DJ Pro 2000S headphones are the best DJ headphones on the market, hand's down! But I haven't used either the AKG or the MDR from Sony so I really couldn't say about them other than I've heard good things about both.
