GatherPlace VS Webex Webinar Software

WebEx is the Big Daddy of webinar programs currently, but we wanted to see how they fared against a smaller competitor - GatherPlace - which we were pleasantly surprised by. Most people involved in a service-oriented business online these days will at some point need to use a webinar program. These are pieces of software, or scripts, that allow you to share your computer screen with other people in the meeting.

What research says

We tried both programs extensively, and GatherPlace came out the clear leader in terms of cost, often-used features and ease of use. It is a very simple program, and even my mother (who just started using the Internet this year) was able to intuitively grasp how to use Gather Place for our webinars. There was no need for anyone other than the host (you) to install software, unlike WebEx. All that was required of them was to click on a link and enter a pass-code. It was that simple, and we were on our way with the Webinar / Teleconference.

Webex does have some advantages over GatherPlace in terms of complex features, but none of which we ever seemed to use. For the extra $20 per month, and the hassle of having to ask guests to install a program - it just wasn't worth it.

There are other options to use for webinar programs, but none of them even came close to Webex and GatherPlace. Those include: Microsoft LiveMeeing, Glance Corporate and Goto Meeting.

We have had very good experience with GatherPlace. I like their "no-strings attached" attitude.

Webinar software is a MUST for any business these days. I work with software developers in India and Argentina, a warehouse in Cincinnati and clients from all of the US. If I had to fly in or teleconference for every out-of-town meeting I'd be broke in two months. I might have to give Gather Place a try. It sounds like a pretty decent webinar software package for the price.

We tried gatherplace and had issues with attendees joining from behind firewalls.

We tried GotoMeeting and Webex, but had problems getting guests to connect through firewalls. With Gatherplace it just worked. I guess if GatherPlace does not work, then nothing else will. Note: with these tight firewalls GatherPlace worked well, VoIP did not work. However my guests could connect by phone without an issue. So we are happy.
