What research says

Comparing these smart phones was fun. Using some of them was less fun. The sexiest phone was Samsung's sleek BlackJack which is feature rich and only has one prominent drawback; the operating system is Windows Mobile 5.0 which can be sluggish when browsing. The upside is that for using Windows programs the integration is tight. The BlackJack also comes with 2 batteries which is important since smartphones with all their features can eat power very quickly. There are a slew of features that make this phone a great unit well above its direct competitor the Motorola Q. This phone has no problem with business or pleasure.

The aging Palm Treo series, which was THE phone to have, has lost a bit its old edge. The Treo 680 we review here was re-released after the Palm Treo 700 model failed to compete. The 680 however feels a bit old, styling is bland and its keyboard use is slightly odd. Palm's operating system has tons of applications if you don't mind searching for the programs you need. The camera and audio options are on the standard side. The 680 is still a very good business phone, hopefully you work for IT.

Research In Motion's Pearl 8100 marks the company's expansion beyond the business market. This phone is excellent. It's solid construction, remarkable features and transmitters are great. This is a quad world band unit that also supports several high-speed data networks so you can buy one unlocked. The "pearl" trackball controller in the center of the phone is quick and easy to use. This phone is more lifestyle friendly than the Treo 680 but still handles business very well, making it the phone you can love day and night.

I have the RIM Blackberry 8700 G through T-mobile. The G series cell phones are much bigger than the Pearls but I like having all of the letters on their own buttons so I don't have to scroll through when texting. I just wish they were a little bigger buttons without actually making the phone bigger.
