What research says

As with all chainsaws the question really comes down to durability, safety, and personal preference. Chainsaw engines won't last long when constantly stressed from being underpowered. That doesn't mean the bigger the motor the better but more so that the length of the bar is appropriate for the engine.

You might also consider the weight of a saw and the taxing effects it can have on you after extended amounts of time. If you have an all day job to do a saw that weighs 10 lbs might be a lot less work that one that weighs 20 lbs. All of these are important factors in deciding the right tree cutting machine for you.

The chainsaws in this review are all entry-level models. If we were to do a step-up from these I'd recommend a Sthil chainsaw, but they may be too expensive and heavy-duty for the average homeowner.

Husqvarna is a well respected brand name by professional tree trimmers worldwide. While the price is significantly more than its competitors you can expect your purchase will return a long-lasting well built and engineered machine that will last years.

The unit doesn't come with a carrying case but our reviews are designed for the average homeowner or investment property maintenance person and we don't think a case affects the value or ability of the machine. It wins our choice award but if this is out of your budget then you might consider our next choice.

Homelite is a brand that is familiar to most property owners and it's good for just that. We like the model and the saw and it's a good all around middle of the road option between durability, ability and cost but just doesn't hold up to the name and longevity records of our choice award winner.

It's just hard to argue against the brand loyalty of either company - the decision comes down to your preference.

We think Poulan Pro makes a good product but don't be misguided by the slightly larger engine. This chain saw has a two inch longer bar that needs that extra power. Similar to other models this requires a two cycle [stroke] gas-oil mixture to lubricate the pistons in its 42 cubic centimeter engine. It comes with all the features that other models and includes a carrying case to tote from job to job.

Unfortunately Poulan Pro doesn't back their products with a warranty that comes close to comparing with its competitors.
