What research says Air conditioners can be a bit of a mystery, especially when it comes to figuring out which size to buy. Here we compare 10,000 BTU units and for this comparison we have chosen 2 window units and 1 indoor floor-standing unit. The brands here, LG, Frigidare and Royal Sovereign all have ample experience in the field of air processing. Important things to consider are things such as the size of the room (especially the height), how many people are often in the room and how many heat sources there are in the room such as windows facing the sun, televisions and so on.
All of these units have a good quality build but the Royal Sovereign stands out in terms of design and durability. In terms of features we'll compare the window units first. If appearance is a feature then the LG is a clear winner, the front is clean and well designed, the controls on the LG are not harsh and are simple and intuitive. The Frigidare has sleep mode and timer features as well as very healthy antimicrobial mesh air filtration with tilt-out filter access. The Royal Sovereign was separated because of how unique it is. This unit is a true conditioner of the air in your room, its a traditional AC unit as well as a fan, and a dehumidifier capable of removing 72 pints per day without every emptying a bucket. Because this unit is not a window mounted system there is a 'window kit' which is used to port heat exhaust. Unlike most indoor units this Royal Sovereign has no 'tank' or to empty because of its self-evaporating system. Thoughtful features like handles and easy gliding casters and even an oscillating mode with adjustable louvers make this unit worth good consideration. In final consideration the size of the room should be first and foremost, to ensure that you choose the right power unit. If you must have a window unit appearance is the only real consideration since the prices are so very close. If however, a portable floor unit is an option the features in the Royal Sovereign can almost justify its $140 price jump, especially if you may need to move the unit or use it as a dehumidifier and climate controller for a special project.
